Reflections on COP26

Green Key England were proud to attend the COP26 conference in Glasgow earlier this month.

We were honoured to present on stage in the Green Zone at the Glasgow Science Centre, alongside global representatives from the Foundation for Environmental Education, Eco-Schools, Blue Flag and Young Reporters for the Environment.

The atmosphere in the Green Zone was electric as visitors and delegates alike wandered the halls of the Science Centre and discovered more about current actions against climate change and innovative technologies being developed to tackle the challenge to limit temperature global temperature rise. There were lots of ideas how we can all play our part on an individual level and every action makes a difference.

Keep Britain Tidy were represented by Louise Carr-Merino, Green Key National Operator and Lee Wray-Davies, Eco Schools National Operator for England. We met colleagues from Keep Scotland Beautiful and Keep Wales Tidy and had the opportunity to discuss best practices from across our teams face to face after many months of online only meetings.

While the results of the political talks may not have achieved what people had hoped for and a consolidated plan for action, we were blown away by the positivity and determination in the air from the crowds in the Green Zone. Young people are among the driving force for change and that was more than evident from the young speakers representing Eco-Schools and Young Reporters for the Environment at our presentation. We were so proud to hear them speak and listen to their thoughts on how we can all impact positive action.
