Leeds Marriott Hotel retain Green Key award

After a pause during the Covid-19 pandemic, Leeds Marriott Hotel have re-entered the Green Key award programme, with strong commitment from the hotel’s management and the Associate Relations Committee who lead on environmental initiatives in the hotel.

The recently refurbished city-centre property ensured that waste was minimised during the refurbishment process, by offering discarded but functional items first to staff (associates), and then to local charities who benefitted from items such as conference tables and chairs.

The hotel has worked to reduce waste in other areas of operation as well, such as at the breakfast buffet where produce is provided in large glass jars and containers rather than individual single-serving portions. This includes dried fruit, nuts and seeds, cereal, jams and spreads and even fruit juice which comes in bulk concentrate in order to reduce plastic waste.

The hotel communicates their sustainability efforts to guests by in-room information and encouraging them to participate in towel and linen reuse to reduce energy and water use during their stay.

Being well located in the city centre, the hotel provides guests with a map of the local area including many places of interest, including parks and green spaces, to explore on foot or using public transport.

Alan Malloy, General Manager of Leeds Marriott Hotel said;

“Being ‘green’ has to be more than just a discussion point, it has to be part of our culture and our associates need to live and breathe it every day. On top of this, it’s now an expectation from our guests and being able to demonstrate our commitment to the environment will be crucial as we evolve our business. Green Key accreditation is a huge first step to take but not the end of the journey.”

Green Key would like to congratulate the whole team at Leeds Marriott Hotel for their commitment to improving the sustainability of the hotel and helping to educate staff and guests as to what we can all do to reduce our impact on the environment, both locally and globally.
