Hilton Garden Inn London Heathrow announced as the first Hilton hotel in England to achieve leading sustainability award
Green Key presents international environmental award to Hilton Garden Inn London Heathrow
Representatives from Keep Britain Tidy presented Hilton Garden Inn London Heathrow General Manager Richard Lee with the international Green Key Award earlier this week.
The hotel joins the Heathrow Marriott and the Sheraton Skyline to become the third hotel within the immediate vicinity of the airport to hold the prestigious award.
The Green Key Award sets the standard for excellence in the field of environmental responsibility and sustainable operation within the tourism sector. During the rigorous judging, each venue is assessed against standards, which are set by the global Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) and backed by the World Tourism Organisation and the UN Environment Programme, including staff involvement, guest information and sustainable management of energy, waste, water, cleaning and food and drinks. Through making greener choices, each venue is able to significantly reduce their environmental impact, reducing the consumption of energy and water and improve their guests’ experience.
The Hilton Garden Inn London Heathrow have recently implemented a number of initiatives in order to improve the ecological footprint of operations including;
Installing solar panels which generate approximately 3% of the hotels annual energy use
Making use of cutting edge technologies such as the Granuldisk Dishwasher which uses small pellets and UV light to clean pots thereby lower the overall water consumption in the pot wash area by on average 70%, compared to manual pot washing
Using EnozoPRO Spray Bottles which utilize tap water, diamond plates, and a small electrical charge to create Ozone Water, a safe and effective multipurpose cleaner, which replaces the need for synthetic chemicals that contribute to chemical pollution.
The hotel now joins more than 3,200 Green Key awarded establishments across 65 countries.
In England, the scheme is managed by environmental charity Keep Britain Tidy.
Deputy Chief Executive of the charity Andrea Crump, who attended the hotel to hand over the award, said:
