Green Key England presents international environmental award to 200th establishment

Green Key England has awarded its 200th eco-certification, with The Hoxton Southwark achieving the prestigious accolade following a rigorous application and audit. Part of Ennismore’s global hospitality brand, The Hoxton Southwark is the third hotel in the group to earn Green Key certification.

The hotel was praised for initiatives including optional housekeeping, the Orbisk food waste management system, and reducing paper use for guest invoices and reports. Caroline Groom, Area General Manager, called the certification “a crucial step” in supporting the brand’s sustainability goals, aiming for all Hoxton properties to be Green Key certified by 2026.

Green Key certification is a globally recognised eco-label, supported by the UN Environment Programme and World Tourism Organisation. Hotels must meet strict criteria across energy, waste, water, and guest engagement to reduce environmental impact and improve guest experience.

Managed in England by Keep Britain Tidy, the scheme has grown from 28 awards in 2021 to 200. Green Key Manager Louise Carr-Merino called the milestone “a wonderful achievement” and celebrated The Hoxton Southwark as “a shining example of sustainability in action.”
